Vijayawada/Visakhapatnam: In a massive show of strength and ignoring denial of police permission, thousands of non-government employees, teachers and pensioners took part in 'Chalo Vijayawada' rally on Thursday to press for their demands over implementation of 11th Pay Revision Commission (PRC).
Notwithstanding preventive arrest of several employees across the State, special checkposts and heavy barricading at BRTS road, the venue of their protest rally, Thursday's programme turned into a grand success which subsequently led to an information meeting by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy at his camp office at Tadepalli near here to take stock of the situation.
PRC Struggle Samiti leaders at the protest rally reiterated their resolve to resort to 'pen down and app down' strike from February 5 and indefinite strike from February 7 holding the government responsible for the consequences due to its stubborn stand. Permission to the rally was denied on the grounds of implementing Covid-19 protocols.
The leaders demanded putting the GOs on implementation of PRC on hold, payment of old salaries, meeting with CM directly for a negotiated settlement as they had no faith in the committee comprising Advisor Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy, Ministers Botcha Satyanarayana, B, Rajendra Nath Reddy and Chief Secretary Sameer Sharma to find out a solution over their demands.
"How can we accept less salary after pay revision," asked Venkatram Reddy, PRC Struggle Samiti leader. He said they have no intention to pick up a confrontation with the government, in his address at the rally. In another development, Botcha Satyanarayana said amicable settlement is not possible if the committee leaders do not come for talks. He described as unjustified the demand for release of Asuthosh Mishra report on PRC saying the government has already revised the salaries. He ruled out rollback of GOs on implementation of PRC saying GOs can only be modified as and when required.
Sources said the government is not happy with inclusion of demands -- scrapping of the Contributory Pension Scheme, increase in salaries of outsourced employees and regularisation of the services of contract employees.
